Chief Sell began his career in public service over 30 years ago while becoming a volunteer firefighter in Riverside County and serving as an explorer for the Los Angeles Fire Department. He entered into the US Navy at 17 and served as an Admiral’s Chef.
Chief Sell went on to work for several Fire Service organizations including BLM, Cal Fire in several units, the Long Beach Fire Department, and now proudly serves as the Fire Chief/Agency Director for the Hemet Fire and Life Safety Agency. Chief Sell is honored to have created a new public safety agency that includes the fire department, building and safety, code enforcement, and fire prevention under one agency. Over his career Chief Sell has held the ranks of firefighter, firefighter/paramedic, engineer, captain, battalion chief, and fire chief. Chief Sell is proud to have created a first responder youth pathway program at Alessandro High School, in a partnership with the Hemet Unified School District. Chief Sell in a partnership with Riverside County Supervisor Yxstian Gutirrez has created a Community Risk Reduction Cadet Program that will enable high school students to work part-time for the Hemet Fire and Life Safety Agency. This program will enable the students to learn about community service, fire prevention, code compliance, and additional pertinent skills.
Chief Sell volunteers his time as the president of the California State Firefighters’ Association (CSFA), a 102+ year-old trade association that’s committed to serving the entire California Fire Service. Chief Sell also serves as the president of the California First Responder’s Support Team (CFRST), a 501c3 that is raising funds to assist the Fire and EMS Service. Chief Sell has led an organizational transformation, created new engaged committees, and has increased collaboration with local, state and federal organizations. Chief Sell also served as a director for the Long Beach Firefighters Association, Local 372.
Chief Sell holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, is completing a Master’s Degree in Emergency Management at the University of Southern California, is an EMT-P, is a Certified Chief Fire Officer, Company Officer, Incident Management Team Operations Section
Chief, holds numerous certifications in All Risk categories, speaks Spanish fluently, and holds a Culinary School Certificate from the US Navy. Chief Sell serves on FIRESCOPE, California Fire Leadership Committee, First Responder Center for Excellence’s Cardiac Committee, Vice President for the Riverside County Fire Chief’s Association, and the NVFC. Chief Sell is a small business owner, author, mentor, and entrepreneur
